Many different types of metal fabrications can be specialized in, but aluminum fabrication is different from any of the others. Aluminum fabrication is unlike other metals because it is most often extruded during its process. This extruding process involves drawing or pushing the aluminum blank through a die in order to create a shaped product. The extrusion process can be performed using a hot process. This is where the metal is heated in order to become more malleable. It can also be cold processed which is performed at room temperature.
Aluminum is commonly used because its properties produce a lightweight metal piece that is resistant to corrosion. Although, one downfall is the fact that it can be fairly brittle causing it to break when force is applied. This is why extrusion is most often the process that is chosen for fabricating purposes.
